Reasons To Choose Female GYN And How To Search For One

By Melissa Stewart

Gynecology is the practice in medicine that deals with female reproductive health which involves breasts, ovaries, uterus and vagina. Gynecologists are also mostly obstetricians who specialize in taking care of pregnant women and after they have just given birth. They are called ob-gyn and were trained to do all these things, including delivering of babies.

They deal with many important health issues such as birth control, menopause and childbirth as well as performing surgery to urinary tract or pelvic organ problems, screening for cancer and treating for infections. Most patients get nervous and embarrassed in allowing doctors to look at their private parts which is the reason they prefer a female GYN Aurora. You could select one by finding them yourself.

Choosing one yourself with the gender you prefer is possible though some hospitals do not encourage this practice. They will provide you one regardless of gender but based on who is available in that moment you need them. That is why looking for one with their own clinic beforehand is important to ensure that your doctor is female.

Physicians from both genders are equally skilled, capable and knowledgeable in their specialization and are professional in doing their work. This means there would be no malice or sexual interest that is shown during the check up or treatment even from a straight male doctor. Though there are those who abuses this privilege but their license will immediately be removed if discovered.

Another reason patients are preferring women doctors would be religious beliefs specially those that strictly does not allow other men who are not their husband to look at the naked body of theirs. This is something to respect and consider when a physician is being assigned. But this is not important during emergency situations.

Teenage girls or young women that have not yet given birth prefer also women doctors due to being unfamiliar with those from the opposite gender than theirs. This is true specially for teenage girls that are not confident with their body particularly during this stage where changes are happening. They would want someone who can relate and explain these changes to them.

If you need one then start by looking for them through requesting for recommendations from your friends, family members and primary care provider. Doing so ensures you that these specialists are trustworthy because they will not be recommended otherwise. And you would have someone to ask about them including how they treat their patients.

Research more about them including where their education and training were taken for this specialty plus when they started to practice this. Read testimonials other patients have written online and have some ideas with how your sessions would go. Check if any complaints were filed against them including medical malpractice charges.

Set an appointment to meet them before finalizing your decision on who to choose and ask them some questions. This includes if your health insurance is accepted, and their stand on reproductive issues such as birth control. Ask them which hospital they have admitting privileges if ever it would become necessary.
