Information Related To Breast Augmentation Michigan Clients Need To Have

By Janet West

Breast augmentation (also termed mammoplasty) is arguably the most common cosmetic surgery performed in Southfield. Growing media influence is one of the forces behind the increased demand for the procedure just as is the case with other cosmetic operations. Larger breasts have become a preference among many women. If they intend to have breast augmentation Michigan residents need to know a number of things beforehand.

There are a number of other indications of mammoplasty apart from the cosmetic reasons. Abnormally small breasts may be seen in some cases of developmental disorders. This is referred to as mammary hypoplasia. It is corrected by increasing the amount of tissue with the breasts or inserting prosthesis. The other reason as to why the same may be needed is effecting a sex change (when a feminine appearance is desired).

Two main types of prosthesis that are used in this procedure. Both have a similar outer shell made of rubber and only differ in the content. The first is pre-filled with silicone which gives it a natural consistency that is similar to the natural breast. Placing it in position requires large surgical incisions because it is less malleable. The second type is filled with saline once in position. It is more flexible and allows for smaller incisions.

This surgery requires that one undergoes under some form of preparation. This will include, for example, seeing a general practitioner with the aim of screening for any underlying conditions that are likely to increase the risks involved. Blood tests may be needed in some cases such as when bleeding disorders are suspected. Smoking should be stopped about two weeks prior to the operation.

Since this is a major surgery, general anesthesia will be used. With such type of anesthesia, one will be unconscious and will only be reversed one the surgery has been completed. An incision to access the site of implant placement is made in one of several places depending on prior discussions between the client and the surgeon. The commonest area is below the breast just above the crease. Others include the armpit and the areolar region.

Complications related to this operation may be related to the surgery itself or the implant. Surgical complications are rare and include excessive bleeding, injury to adjacent structures and infections. Complications that may arise from the implant are fairly common and include leakage of the gel, displacement (leading to asymmetry), implant rupture and crease formation.

You will require a few days to recover. As you leave the hospital, the doctor will prescribe some analgesic drugs and antibiotics to keep possible infections in check. It is important that you avoid strenuous physical activity especially in the first two weeks as healing takes place. The breasts, should be handled with utmost caution at this time to prevent wound breakdown.

Every client undergoing breast augmentation needs to know that the results will differ from one person to another. Some of the factors that contribute to these differences include, the type of problem for which the operation is being done, the skill of the surgeon, the type of prosthesis used, whether or not complication are encountered and client age among others. The benefits of surgery will be lost gradually over time and the breast will begin to sag due to the gravitational pull.
